Kimbo Slice is apparently leaving MMA for boxing. Boxing promoter Gary Shaw told ESPNNewYork that he has a boxing deal in place with Slice that would see him make his boxing debut by the end of the year. Kimbo is apparently working with California-based trainer Clemente Medina and is expected to debut sometime between October and December. Shaw thinks a successful run could have Ferguson poised for title contention within six or so fights.

In a conference call today with MMAScoops.com that took about an hour, Senior V.P. And G.M., Showtime Sports Programming Ken Hershman, ProElite CEO Doug DeLuca, and EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw talked about the future of ShoXC and EliteXC in general.

Gary Shaw, the creator of ShoBox and ShoXC had this to say about his company and Showtime, " To Ken's credit, when I came up with the idea of ShoXC. I called Ken, the negotiation took about 30 seconds. He said, "I got it, let's lock in some dates." We are going to do four ShoXC's this year(all on Showtime, not PPV by the way). We don't have our schedule yet for next year, but we will do one on either August 18th, 24th, or 25th. We'll come back with another one in October and another one in December."

Now remember these ShoXC's are not EliteXC's like some of the others that we have seen. ShoXC is going to be a showcase for young, up and coming fighters to showcase their talents. Such as the main event this Friday on Showtime with Edson Berto and KJ Noons. Now I got to talk with Gary Shaw and I asked him personally about the free agent market in MMA, and who he might be looking at in the future.

MMAScoops.com: Hey Gary, I was just wondering with the acquisition of Pride from the UFC, it has left a lot of free agents out on the market and not to beat the proverbial "dead horse" that is Fedor Emelianenko but are you guys going after some of the bigger name fighters in MMA? I mean you have Ninja, Villasenor, I heard you picked up Nick Diaz. So could you enlighten me on some of those areas?

Gary Shaw: Sure, the door to Elite XC here in California is always open to all fighters. We have been speaking to some, what you would call, name fighters. I'm also a huge believer in building young talent and new stars, I believe they are out there. But we are always open to speak to those out their who have something to bring to EliteXC and Showtime.

MMAScoops.com: Right, right. Do you have any idea on who Nick Diaz or Ninja may be fighting next?

Gary Shaw: "Um, Yeah, I mean I'll tell ya this. We don't have the bout contracts signed, so you can call this a scoop or whatever you want. But on September 15th in Hawaii the main event will be Robbie Lawler vs. Ninja for the EliteXC belt...Also with this fight we will have four or five other bouts that you will be really excited about.....We're hoping to bring Nick back on the 15th as well, but we do not have an opponent as of yet."

MMAScoops.com: "That’s great, well while I do have the time I'd like to tell you guys, the attention to detail that you bring with each show and the changes you make from each show are definitely shinning through. And if you keep that up you should have a bright future ahead. At least in the fans view."

Gary Shaw: " We will, and I appreciate the compliment. At the same time I'm sure there will come a time when we miss-step but I want you to know that when we do it's never intentional and we always are open to criticism...Thank you for your time and compliment."

MMAScoops.com: "Thank you too Gary."

As the call went on the trio commented on all things MMA including steroids. When Gary Shaw was asked about the recent IFL drug testing, if he would be following suit, he responded that although he couldn't see it to the future he didn't see drug testing within his company as a successful solution. At least in the sense that the way the IFL is doing it. Finally Gary was asked about Sokodjou and exactly why the deal fell through,

Gary Shaw: "We thought we had him. We gave him a very good offer. We flew him at the last moment to our June 22nd PPV in San Jose where he stayed as our guest. He ate very well, we filled him with beverages. And then supposedly when he went back someone threw an astronomical amount at him that I was not willing to match."
