Ricardo Lamas (12-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) says he is hoping for a title shot after his fight with Erik Koch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at UFC on FOX 6. He is on a three-fight win streak at featherweight after knocking out Matt Grice in his debut, submitting (and getting "Submission of the Night") Cub Swanson ant UFC on FOX 1 and then defeating Hatsu Hioki.
The event takes place at the United Center in Chicago.
On getting a title shot: "Whenever you get a finish and put on a great fight, it gets you closer to that next shot. You could win 10 fights in a row, but if you're not performing and winning every one by decision and it's a boring fight, the UFC really isn't going to give you a shot right away. You've got to prove yourself and really improve every time you go out there."
On how good his fight will be: "Things are going to get really rowdy in our fight. 'm bringing a ton of people. He's right next door, so I'm sure he's bringing a bandwagon of people, too. I think we could definitely have a 'Fight of the Night' right there."
On wanting a top contender to fight: "I wanted a fight that made sense – I've been stuffing up the competition every time, and I really wanted a top contender to fight. The top five guys are either already matched up or injured. But then they came to me with Erik Koch. I just had to sit around and wait for the right fight that made sense."
