Ulysses Gomez Discusses His UFC Debut

Ulysses Gomez (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) recently spoke about debuting for the UC at UFC on FOX 4. Here are the highlights…

Is He Nervous? : "There's no nerves. The way I look at it is, 99 percent of the people in the arena and watching on TV have never seen me fight. This is their only opportunity to watch me fight, and I've got to make sure it's memorable for the right reasons. I'm going to go out there and give them a good show."

Ob Fighting in the Staples Center: "I was telling my brother, 'The last time we were in the Staples Center, we were paying a hundred bucks to sit in the rafters and watch the Lakers play the 76ers, and now people are paying to watch me fight.' That's pretty cool," Gomez said. "I'm a fighter, and when it comes down to business I'm going to fight. But I'm going to enjoy every minute of it."

On Taking the Short Notice Fight: "At first, I had the initial reservations of taking a fight on short notice," Gomez said. "But you've just got to remind yourself this is something I've always wanted to do and here's my opportunity to prove I belong. I've never done a short-notice fight, but I kind of like it because I don't have time to get nervous. This is something I've been wanting to do since I was 15 or 16 years old, and it's something I've told people I was going to do, but they would never really believe me," Gomez said. "So here's your chance. I've got the golden ticket, like Willy Wonka, and I've got to make sure no one takes it from me."
