Clay Guida spoke about tomorrow's fight against Gray Maynard, here are the highlights…
On Fighting Maynard: "He's got a lot of confidence, a lot of power in his hands, and I'm not going to make the same mistake to stand in front of him. I expect him to try and take me down and ground-and-pound me, and I expect him to try to take my head off, but we're not going to be there for him. We're going to be staying on the outside and implementing our game plan."
On Finishing Maynard: "I believe a finish over Gray gets me right back up there, possibly as No. 1 contender," Guida told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "(It) keeps us up there in the top two or three. (I lost to) the eventual champion, and Gray lost to the champ the last two years. We're kind of gridlocked up here at the top, which is cool with me."
On Changes to His game: "I've been making a lot of adjustments in my wrestling – just a different skill set – and just focused on fundamentals," Guida said. "Ben Henderson stopped the scrambles and slowed down the clinch to his pace a little bit, and that was kind of the telltale of that fight."
On His Motivation: "It's motivated me beyond belief," Guida said. "I'm more driven now in the sport than I was six years ago when I started in the UFC. It shows how close I am to my dream – having that belt. (Losing to Henderson was) a minor setback, but a big win over Gray is going to erase the memory of a loss to the eventual champion. I'm more driven now and hungry than I ever have been."
