Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (5-0 MMA, 3-0 SF) will defend her title against Sarah Kaufman (15-1 MMA, 6-1 SF) on August 18 in Sandiego.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced the fight this past month.
The event will include a main card on Showtime and preliminary fights on Showtime Extreme. It will likely take place at Valley View Casino Center, which hosted two previous Strikeforce shows.
Rousey recently won her title with a first round submission victory over Miesha Tate in March with an armbar. She is undefeated in eight fights (three amateur and five pro). She has an Olympic bronze medal in judoka. Her fights have also never went past the first round and she submitted all of her opponents with armbars. She has had a number of PR commitments recently. In April she lobbied for Strikeforce parent company Zuffa to legalize MMA in New York. She will appear on ESPN's The Body Issue in the fall.
Kaufman is looking for a fourth straight win after losing her belt to Marloes Coenen (who lost it to Tate) in 2010. She has defeated names like Megumi Yabushita, Liz Carmouche and Alexis Davis. Ten of her 15 career wins have come via knockout.
