Josh Neer spoke with MMAJunkie about his upcoming fight with Mike Pyle at UFC on FX 3 and his plan to defend against the "lay and pray" fighters. Here are some highlights:
On the talks that Pyle may be lingering in catchweight territory: "I heard he's heavy right now, so I think he's going to try to play the big man to smaller man. But I'm prepared for that. He's a tough guy. I think I'm better standing up than him. I think he's going to try to take it to the ground. He's going to have a hard time in the third round when I'm still fresh, and he's all dehydrated and sucked out."
Recalling his history fighting bigger opponents: "One of my first professional fights was in a barn in Minnesota. And I fought a heavyweight. I weighed 170; the other guy weighed, like, 240. But he wasn't very good."
About his history dealing with "lay and pray" fighters: "I think that I've evolved. Before, I used to say I hate fighting wrestlers who are going to take me down and lay on me. But now, I'm going to defend the takedown. I might take them down. I think that you have to be a more well-rounded fighter than what I used to be."
